The BBC news website reports that, according to a Readers Digest survey, over 50% of people living in Britain hold beliefs in psychic powers like mind-reading and premonitions. It has to be said though that this is based on a sample of only 1006 people so it’s not conclusive proof that Britons are held spellbound by the world of psychic phenomena but it’s an interesting indication all the same. The bias leans towards female rather than male and interest tends to increase as people get older. Here’s the full news article - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/5017910.stm.

This is aimed more at the person who seeks comfort from a psychic rather than those giving readings themselves. We turn to psychics because of events in our life that usually have had a negative impact. Whether it be bereavement, marriage break-ups, losing our jobs or whatever, we often turn to a psychic to see if the future might bring happier times or the resolution of a problem that currently troubles us.
I’ve been reading an article on www.accuratepsychicadvice.com that talks at length about the danger of us developing an unhealthy dependency on psychics pursuing readings to the exclusion of virtually everything else. The basic message and advice given is to take a step back and do some self-evaluation rather than put yourself at the complete mercy of whichever psychic(s) you happen to be using. No-one is saying you shouldn’t use a psychic but it should be just part of your healing process. It’s essential you ask yourself what you are seeking and try to be as constructive as possible in defining your path to happier times. Your destiny is likely to be in your own hands and the actions you take should be built on steady foundations. Maybe not what some of you want to hear I guess but you do need to seek a balance.

This is probably one of the most commonly asked questions and one to which different answers can come from different people. With that question in mind, I’ve been reading an excellent article by Vicki SpringWolf at http://www.experiencefestival.com/a/Psychic_Development/id/21974 today and this is definitely one I would point you to. In my last posting, you’ll see that Alan Tutt carries you in the right direction but Vicki really lays down some solid foundations if you want to truly develop your psychic abilities.
In a nutshell, Vicki explains that you must start off by finding the reason why we want to be psychic before releasing your ego and cleansing your psyche. We then set about the true path towards gaining a psychic ‘ability’ which comes in time and not overnight.
I’ve no hesitation in pointing you towards Vicki’s enlightening article.

Would you say you are someone who has psychic ablities ? Would you perhaps prefer to admit that it’s more likely you have some sort of instinct or sixth sense when you encounter people. By that I mean, you are able to assess a person beyond the obvious signs we all instinctively look for when working out whether we might like or trust them ? Well perhaps you don’t give yourself the credit you deserve as the latter can be a stepping stone to the former.
This idea is explored by Alan Tutt at http://www.psi-q.com/article-Are-You-Psychic.php which is a very intriguing read as questions probably outweigh answers. Don’t let that put you off though as this is an honest appraisal of the author’s early struggle to ‘gain’ psychic abilities once he recognised that we do indeed have an innate ability to weigh up people beyond the boundaries of the obvious. He does eventually spill the beans in a small way so please do give this article a few minutes of your time !

Most of you out there will have heard of one of the internet’s latest mediums (not the psychic type!) for listening to audio material, namely podcasts. These can be listened to online or downloaded to your PC for consumption later (either via software on your PC like iTunes, via your iPod or via your MP3 player).
A great new website, Psychic Podcasts, now enables you to choose from an excellent selection of podcasts that deal with psychic phenomena. The website can be reached at http://www.psychicpodcasts.com/. You can simply click on the podcast of your choice and wait for the audio to play (there will be a delay) or right click the article heading and click on Save Target As and save the podcast to your machine in MP3 format. This is one of those essential websites that you must add to your Favorites list !

In my last posting, I related a tale of a supposed ‘psychic’ going down the road of deception. While we’re on this topic, it may be a good time to look at some clues to when you’re being taken in by a charlatan psychic. Well this is what’s covered on the website belonging to Psychic World and the URL you need is http://www.psychicworld.net/charlatan.htm. Section 5 deals with the guessing games that go on and is reproduced here :-
5. Guessing Games : Here is what a typical guessing game sounds like.
Reader : “I feel someone around you with a name called Dave. Do you know someone by this name?
Client: “Yes”
Reader: ” Are they a friend?”
Client: “Umm…well not really, just someone I know from work.”
Reader: “Well, I feel you will be getting closer to this person in the future. Have you a grandmother who has passed?”
Client “No.”
Reader: “I feel a grandparent who has passed. Is there any other grandparent who has passed.”
Client : “Well, yes, both my grandparents on my father’s side.”
Reader: “I feel the you father’s father is wanting to tell you to make sure that you have to get your relationship sorted out”
Clients: “What relationship?”
Reader: “Umm…the relationship with your family.”
Client: “Oh…ok”
As you can see, this reading seems more based on some educated guesses by the psychic. Most people know someone called Dave and most people have at least one grandparent who has passed on. This makes for a pretty dull and uninformative reading as you can see by this dialogue.

It’s nothing new to hear that someone is unscrupulously exploiting the phsychic readings realm to make a quick buck for themselves. Some are more despicable than others and one case that firmly falls into that category is that of Linda Marks from Delray Beach in Florida. This gypsy woman used all manner of cruel and twisted tactics to extract money from victims who were taken in by her scams.
Yesterday she was found guilty, sentenced to jail for 4 years and ordered to repay 1.1 million pounds sterling back to her victims.
Detective Toby Athol of Boynton Beach Police Department said afterwards, “If she was any good, she’d have already known what her sentence was going to be…..She gave her victims all these big stories, but she was unable to predict that I was coming round to arrest her, so I wouldn’t rate her psychic powers that highly”. Couldn’t have summed it up better myself !

While looking at Stacey Wolf’s (a psychic of some repute) website tonight, I came across an article she’d written about telepathy. This is not a subject that every website features so it caught my eye. First off then, have you ever tried to pick up on other people’s transmitted thoughts ? Do you believe it’s possible ? Stacey starts us off with the following advice :-
Let’s go over how telepathy happens, what it feels like and the common misconceptions about this natural talent. This will prepare you with all the information you need to do it and not get completely confused or overwhelmed your first time out.
Telepathy is sending and receiving thoughts with your mind. We do this all day usually quiet down enough to hear it. When you sit down to play a telepathy that usually masks it. That’s how you pick up your information. It’s always there, you’re just listening to it better.
The first time you try sending and receiving, you’ll probably have to concentrate a bit to pick up random details of the thoughts your friend is sending. Seeing a whole image in your mind’s eye is nearly impossible for newbies, so don’t shoot for that when you begin. Just focus on your friends thoughts and describe the images and symbols as they come up.
Stacey then goes on to break up the telepathy process into games you can play with another person to test yourself (or yourselves) out. This appears to be one of the best ways of getting introduced to this topic as it gives you practice while having fun. If this takes your fancy then read the rest of this article at http://www.staceywolf.com/html/telepathy.html.

Here’s a story to warm the cockles of your heart ! The Yorkshire Post Today website based in the UK are reporting on a case of a lost collie where the owner had given up after days of searching. Hoping in vain that his old school pal (TV psychic Ian Lawman) might be able to help, this move proved to be the right one and a happy ending was the end result.

I’m sure many of you must have tried tests on your psychic powers and probably you have tried the test on-line. It’s important to stop and use common sense when taking part in such things and to not take too literally what you are told on websites who claim to have valid tests.
I came across one such test today at http://www.blogthings.com/areyoupsychicquiz/. Ten questions are asked and I have to say no imagination whatsoever has been put into this test. Ten really obvious questions are posed which a ten year old could have come up with and then a really simple percentage is applied. So if you get 5 out of 10 questions ‘right’ you are told you are 50% psychic and if you get 7 out 10 right you are 70% psychic ! If only the psychic world was so simple to equate !
